Advantage of Powerkote over other coatings.

Flexibility
Powerkote coatings have an average coverage of 10 microns, allowing the coating to flex 180° without cracking. This allows coated parts to expand and contract without jeopardising corrosion protection.
COMPANY TEST RESULTS RECOMMENDATION
SecMet (SASOL) ASTM D522 180° full load flexibility Excellent
TSP Consultancy SABS 145 < 3mm / 180° Excellent

Adhesion
Powerkote makes use of a unique resin system, which maintains adhesion to base metal at temperatures in excess of 2000°F. The adhesion of a protective coating system to the substrate is considered a good indicator of the coatings ability to resist corrosion. With independent tests Powerkote scored a ‘o' rating, the best possible result according to ISO specifications (International Standards Organisation).Powerkote is able to mirror the expansion and contraction rate of the substrate, enabling the coating to withstand extreme thermal shock.
COMPANY TEST RESULTS RECOMENDATION
SecMet (SASOL) ASTM4541 3.5 - 4.5 (Mpa) Excellent
TSP Consultancy ISO2409 ‘o' Ref. Note 1 Excellent
Note: 1
This classification of ‘o' indicates the best possible result according to ISO2409

Impact :
Powerkote is capable of surviving impact; this is a great benefit when assembling parts as, when rigging heavy abnormal parts impact will occur rendering other more brittle coatings useless, as the substrate is exposed. Because Powerkote is only 10 - 15microns thick assembly is made easier as there is no clearance adjustment necessary.
COMPANY TEST RESULTS RECOMENDATION
TSP Consultancy SABS145 14 Joules Exceptional
SABS146 generally finds 6 Joules an acceptable limit.

Ease of application:
Powerkote is extremely easy to apply;
Powerkote coatings come ready for use no special blending is required.
Some Powerkote coatings are water based; making cleaning of equipment easy and overspray can be simply washed off.
Powerkote coatings can be applied with low pressure spray guns.
Powerkote coatings can be applied to hot surfaces, even over 200°C.

Cermakrome Metallic Ceramic Coating (MCX)

Basics:
Cermakrome has a near chrome finish and excellent corrosion protection as well as being a thermal barrier coating designed to retain heat in an exhaust manifold reducing underhood temperatures by up to 50%. This means it accelerates the exhaust gas velocity, increasing performance and life span of surrounding parts as well as reducing fuel consumption.

Product Description:

MCX “Cermakrome” is a metallic ceramic coating capable of providing extremely high levels of corrosion and chemical protection in very thin films. When applied to exhaust systems, MCX will withstand substrate temperatures of over 1300f. In addition direct flame will not cause delaminating, as long as substrate temperatures do not exceed this temperature. MCX will handle environmental temperatures of up to 1600f. Due to its unique ceramic nature, the coating also functions as a very effective thermal barrier, with reduced thermal radiation characteristics. Requires a 500F cure, with maximum hardness achieved with a 650F cure. After curing the coating requires “burnishing” to be sealed. This burnishing process can produce a very high luster, near chrome, appearance. The coating cures out to a very hard surface with excellent adhesion. The water based solvent system provides for an environmentally friendly material with a bake/cure cycle that is not as hazardous as other thermally cured resin systems.

Applications:
Exhaust manifolds, Headers, Branches, Turbo's, Down Pipes, Intake Systems, Waste Gates, Silencers, Fans, Blades (eg industrial), Industrial equipment, Brake Calipers, Tappet Covers, Housings, Pumps, etc. Can be applied to any metal that can handle the cure temperature of 280ºC

Thermal Barrier Coating (TLHB)

Basics:

Product Description:
TLHB is a thermally cured thermal barrier. TLHB makes use of a unique binding system, to retain high temperature stability while reducing thermal transfer. The cured material is capable of providing increased thermal resistance while also providing a very slick surface. This surface in an exhaust tract will aid in increased exhaust gas velocity and reduced carbon build-up. TLHB is an excellent thermal barrier for wheels. It will also shed brake dust and debris. The film thickness as applied ranges from .0005" to .003" and is not sensitive to the manner in which it is applied. If a run or other excessive film build occurs it will simply bubble and crack. The damaged surface may be lightly sanded and then put in service as normally the coating is not damaged to the base metal level. TLHB achieves full cure at 300F, after 1 hour at temperature. When cured, TLHB is not affected by most chemicals. TLHB can aid in the more even distribution of heat as well as allow for more efficient operation of the protected part. Part life increase is also a benefit as well as increased corrosion resistance.

Applications:
TLHB is a high temperature thermal barrier coating with good corrosion and chemical resistance. TLHB may be applied in multiple coats to achieve maximum thickness. Applied as a single coat at a time, allowing a ‘flash” at 300f for 10 minutes between coats. Cooled to ambient before the next layer of material is applied. Suitable for brakes, exhaust tracks, wheels, buzz bars, turbo chargers, heat exchangers, water boxes , pipes, springs, casings, frames, housings etc

Metallic Ceramic Coating (CBC2)

Product Description:
CBC2 is a metallic ceramic coating designed for use in combustion chamber applications on non ferrous metals. CBC2 is a unique material that exceeds the capabilities of more traditional ceramics. CBC2 has all of the excellent thermal barrier characteristics without the tendency to crack and flake, common to other ceramics. In addition, CBC2 aids in heat movement within the combustion chamber. The heat movement barrier function increases combustion efficiency, through more efficient oxidation of fuel. In addition, the polished surface is not only highly reflective to heat, but provides minimal transfer of residual combustion chamber heat to the incoming fuel mass, thus reducing the chance of detonation. CBC2 has excellent carbon shedding characteristics, which also aids performance. CBC2 is unaffected by most chemicals. Survives thermal shock, can withstand temperatures in excess of 3000ºF for short periods.
Applications:
CBC2 is designed for single coat coverage and may be applied to non ferrous metal parts. Forms durable chrome like finish. Survives heat and forces of an internal combustion engine. Can be used on pistons for both petrol and diesel engines. May be used to protect aluminium parts. Not recommended for magnesium.

IC-1 Insulation

Product Description:
IC-1
Is designed to provide a layer of insulation to isolate components or environments from high temperature transfer. IC-1 may be brushed on to virtually any substrate.
Applications:
IC-1 has been used in auto racing as an insulator between the exhaust system and the driver's compartment. Temperature reductions have been significant enough that the metal heat shields previously utilised were able to be removed. IC-1 is a metallic/aluminium in colour which also helps reflect heat away from the coated surface. Extremely smooth plastics may need to be roughed up to improve adhesion. For hard surfaces, a light sanding or a low pressure sandblast with a fine sand (100grit) may be used.

Thermal Dispersant Coating (TLTD)

Product Description:
TLTD is a thermally cured heat emitting coating designed to accelerate the heat transfer ability of the coated surface. TLTD makes use of several factors in managing heat flow. The coating is applied in a thin film, so as not to fill in the surface porosity, thus not reducing surface area. It also coats the surface with ingredients that enhance the flow of heat. These features are combined with a black pigment, making use of the black body radiation theory. TLTD also provides excellent corrosion protection which not only enhances the appearance, but extends the functional life of the coating. TLTD also has a lubricant included in the formulation that makes the surface very easy to clean. TLTD is a good oil shedding material and enhances cooling through improved heat transfer to oil and other coolants. TLTD can withstand temperatures in excess of 2000ºF and survives extreme thermal shock.
Applications:
TLTD is a high temperature thermal dispersant coating with good corrosion and chemical resistance. May be used on springs, elements, brake calipers, discs, oil pans, radiators, intercoolers and parts which need to release heat.
